My childhood street in Chicago dead ends at the Chicago River. At the other end of the street across Foster Ave. is the Bohemian National Cemetery. I never found it creepy. When I was in college I would run around the cemetery peering at the headstones as I ran. I was fascinted by the ornate carvings and old family photos.
These days I am bit of a drive by photographer. So in honor of my child hood street here are two cemeteries from my current neighborhood that stretches fifteen miles across rural Georgia.

I have an odd attraction to cemeteries so I really liked this post.
When I was a kid, I grew up in White Plains, NY, which (too lazy to link wikipedia, plus who gives a f**K) was the site of a landmark Revolutionary War battle.
Anyway there were some very old and cool cemeteries due to the long settled nature of this place.
To this day I enjoy a walk through a cemetery, but only during the day!
The "Headless Horseman" cemetery, of Washington Irving fame, was not so far away. It is a fascinating place. They have night tours around this time of year.
You wouldn't find me there!
Fran,
My hisory teacher friends (tri-coner) tell me that I should really be an history teacher. Maybe so.
I have been to White Plaines in a past life when I was a capitalist. I did know that White Plaines was the sight of Revolutionary War battle.
I love cemeteries just like the obituaries because they contain bits of personal history that you may not find anywhere else.
Sparticus,
One the interesting tidbits about the Bohemian National Cemetery is that Anton Cermak, The Mayor Chicago in the '30s,who was killed during an assassination attempt on FDR's life is buried there.
When I had access to real Northern Newspapers I would comb the obits for WWII Vets. I wanted to know personal stories.
I love this picture, Honey.
DC- Thanks baby...
I like this post too. Spartacus, I do the same thing with the dates, adding them and also noticing if someone died or on their own birthday. ? I used to go to a cemetary I lived next to when I needed to cry.
You have just inspired me to write a post about my mother's obit. Don't worry, it had our family on the floor laughing at a time when we needed it badly.
Come on over and see what you have inspired Mathman!
Thanks Fran!
